Day 1:
Arrival into Zurich Airport we will be there with sign in hand waiting for you just outside the customs doors. After checking into our Zurich hotel we will head into the city for a full tour with highlights on a ferry ride down the Limmat River, Sprungli Chocolate Confection store, 3 main Cathedrals of Zurich, and a stroll down Niederdorf Street. After viewing the city from the University platform we will have a great dinner together. (Reason for 1st night in Zurich is to get over the jetlag before starting our big hikes.)
Day 2:
We leave Zurich early in the morning on a train headed for the Alps. We will board the famous Schnyige Platte narrow gauge cogwheel train which will put us on our first Alpine trail. The hike will offer panoramic views of the lakes below and the towering Alps above. This hike should take over 7 hours to complete from Schnyige Platte to Faulhorn, past the breathtaking Bachalp Lake, and finally to the First Alp Hut. We’ll have dinner at the hut and enjoy the evening views and get a goodnights rest.
Day 3:
First Hut-Gleckstein Hut
We need to get an early start because this will be a big day, but before hitting the trail there is a Zipline offered at First if anyone wants to add to the adventure. We’ll hike from First to Grosse Scheidegg and then onto the steep hike to the Gleckstein Hut. This hike offer up close views of the massive glaciers. Although not extremely technical there are sections where cables handholds are offered. At the top we will enjoy the views and serenity along with a few mountain goats called Steinbocks. We will have a great dinner and rest for the night there.
Day 4:
Gleckstein Hut – Baeregg Hut
Our bodies will surely be a bit tired from yesterdays climb so we will not push the distance as much on this day, but it will still requires a good climb. We will leave Gleckstein Hut and hike back down to the main train. We will stop in Pfingstegg for lunch and to ride the Alpine Slides offered there. From there we will begin our climb up into Baeregg Hut. Here we will enjoy the views and have a good dinner. For those wanting a little more climb that day you can venture further up the glacier trail from the hut.
Day 5:
Baeregg Hut-Grindelwaldblick Hut
We will leave early from the Baeregg Hut and work our way across the front side of the Eiger. Most of this day will be a steady climb to the saddle of Kleine Scheidegg that sits at the feet of the Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger. The views will offer a look into both the Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen valleys. We’ll check into the Berghaus Grindelwaldblick in Kleine Scheidegg and enjoy the views along with a good dinner and nights rest. For those wanting an moonlit hike that night we can hike from the hut to the top of the Maennlichen Alp.
Day 6:
Grindelwaldblick hut- Lobhorn Hut
Early in the morning we will leave Kleine Scheidegg and decent into the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We will pass through the village of Wengen before a steep drop into Lauterbrunnen. We will have lunch in Lauterbrunnen before making our climb up into the Lobhorn hut. By the time we reach this hut we will have hiked over two Mountain valleys and the surrounding Alpine range. This quiet hut will give us a nice peaceful nights rest after a delicious dinner.
Day 7:
Lobhorn hut- Rotstock Hut
This will be our final full day of hiking in the Alps and we will be sure to have amazing Alpine views this day. We will hike from Lobhorn hut to the famous village of Murren where we will stop and enjoy lunch and the views. From there we will hike up to our final hut called-Rotstock hut. After checking into the hut we can leave some of our gear to hike a further distance in the surrounding area. We will enjoy the meal that night as we marvel at what we’ve accomplished over the last week.
Day8:
We'll get an early start from the Rotstock hut and hike down the mountain pass to the village of Stechelberg. This final hike will be a great end to our hut to hut journey as we enjoy the surrounding views of the Alps. Once in Stechelberg we can have lunch and then begin our trek back to Zurich by train. We will take the famous Goldenpass train that will take us to the city of Luzern. This full city tour will take us through this beautiful lakeside city with stops at the famous Chapel Bridge and the Lions Monument. We will then grab our final train ride into Zurich and check into our hotel and have a great final group dinner together.
Day9:
We will help the group get to the airport after a quick chocolate stop before your departure.
